Course Description: 

This workbook identifies with the Skills for Care Common Core Principles for Supporting People with Dementia and information has been used from the Gloucestershire Dementia Training & Education Strategy as adapted by the South West Development Centre on behalf of the Dementia Partnerships for wider dissemination and sharing; further information is incorporated from the Bournemouth and Poole NHS Foundation Trust Dementia Training Framework. This workbook also references the NICE quality standard 30 for supporting people to live well with Dementia

Learning Outcomes

This workbook provides a basic knowledge and awareness of dementia using the common core principles to build a confident workforce. The knowledge will cross reference to the QCF level 2 award in Dementia Care. On completing this workbook you will:

  • be able to describe dementia and understand the different symptoms of dementia and understand the importance of an early diagnosis
  • communicate sensitively and effectively
  • understand person centred approaches;
  • understand behaviours that  we find challenging
  • be able to consider the affect dementia has on a person’s feelings and emotions including those of their family and other carers;
